Small Supply of discipline
Did you know less that 2% of “dieters” manage to keep off the weight?...
No wonder we all lose hope that we'll ever get the body we strive for.
What I learned though — and what I'll share with you today — is that the endless cycle of rebound weight gain was never my fault. Just like it's not your fault. You see…
Diets don't work… for one very simple reason...
When you are told to skip entire food groups. When you are forced to limit the amount of calories you eat. Your only option is to use discipline to stick to the plan.
When you don’t eat you get hungry, right?...
And when you’re trying to follow a diet, doesn’t it feel like you’re hungry all the time?
It’s like you’re running a marathon and the finish line keeps getting pushed away. There’s never a day or a time when you are allowed to just NOT be hungry. However...
Imagine being hungry only once or twice a week for a specific amount of time…
And the rest of the time you’re full and satisfied… Never even thinking about your next meal.
Wouldn’t that be freeing?
When I started using the method I’m about to show you it was like a weight being lifted.
And the crazy thing is… I discovered something about hunger too.

Emotional overeating can make a person feel imprisoned – it can seem like there is no way out of the cycle of feeling sad, angry, anxious and so forth, and then eating to alleviate the emotional pain. There are treatments that are available, though – some of them conventional and some of them alternative.
Conventional therapy, surgery, and medication have all been utilized at one time or another for the treatment of emotional overeating. There are, however, some alternative therapies that are worth exploring. Here are some of them.
Because emotional overeating begins in the mind, hypnosis is said to be effective because it addresses the mind directly with the power of suggestion. Hypnosis is not the mumbo-jumbo stuff of cartoons and swinging pocket watches; it’s a clinical practice and many practitioners have used it with success to treat emotional overeating.
The intent of meditation as a treatment for emotional overeating is to “tune in” to the emotional thought center that is driving your cravings and/or binge eating. Meditation, sometimes taking a form called “mindfulness,” is the opposite of mindLESSness, which is what often happens in emotional overeating. The person does not really think about what he or she is doing; it’s mindless eating.
It seems like every time you turn around there’s a new herbal supplement promising to help you lose weight. But there are some herbs that can help with the issue of emotional overeating. Here are some of them.
* Hoodia – This much-publicized herb is said to be effective at appetite suppression and boosting energy. Its effects tend to be subtle, and it also has a good safety record.
* Vitex – This hormone-balancing herb for women may help those whose emotional overeating is influenced by hormone fluctuations.
* Ginseng – This ancient herb is said to help sugar cravings and curb the compulsion to overeat in response to one’s emotions. Both American and Asian ginseng are purported to be equally effective.
Acupuncturists are often asked if acupuncture can help with weight loss. The answer, in general, is yes – but not always. However, the good news is that acupuncture tends to be more successful with treating emotional overeating than just overeating. This may be due to acupuncture’s alleged ability to release endorphins and boost metabolism – making the client feel better emotionally, effectively curtailing the emotional overeating.
Interestingly, having the right balance of vitamins and minerals may affect emotional overeating – it’s not too much of a stretch to speculate that nutritional deficiencies could play a part in this kind of overeating. So make sure you’re not eating a lot of artificial, processed, pre-packaged foods; opt for fresh, whole foods as a general rule. It’s also a good idea to take a vitamin and mineral supplement that is formulated for your gender and life situation.Continue reading
Regular physical activity can deliver plenty of rewards. You feel better and look better, improve your heart health, and your mental functioning receives a boost as well. Those few benefits are just the tip of the iceberg where the advantages of exercise are concerned.
Unfortunately, bad things begin to happen if you are physically inactive. The following 10 side-effects of no exercise should be avoided at all costs, and can be, with simple and regular physical activity.
1– Your Heart Weakens— Your risk for heart attack, stroke, atherosclerosis, hypertension and other dangerous heart conditions dramatically increases if you don’t exercise regularly.
2– You Experience More Stress— Today’s world is hectic and stressful. There is no need to add more stress to your daily routine. However, that’s exactly what happens when you avoid exercise. Physical activity has been proven to lead to lower stress levels and less anxiety.
3– Your Sex Life Suffers— Heightened stress causes a decline in libido in men and women. Exercise delivers strength and stamina, important for a good sex life. Regular exercise has also been linked to a reduction in ED (erectile dysfunction) in men.
4– Your Chances of Contracting Bone Disease Skyrocket– Little physical activity leads to the development of osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and other bone density diseases.
5– You Are Not As Happy— Exercise releases “feel good” hormones called endorphins. They help prevent depression, make you feel good after exercise, and deliver a calm, clear, happy state of mind.
6– You Get Fat— Your chances of becoming overweight or obese are elevated when you don’t exercise. As you gain weight, your risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and other health problems increases.
7– Your Natural Defense System Weakens– The Mayo Clinic reports that “without regular aerobic exercise, your immune system weakens.” This means your natural ability to resist infection, illness and injuries of all types is decreased.
8– Your Self-Esteem Can Take a Hit– Increased chances of obesity, depression, stress and a poor sex life can negatively impact the way you think about yourself.
9– Your Lung Capacity Decreases– As your physical activity diminishes, so does your ability to breathe properly. If your lungs aren’t working right, your heart, muscles and entire body do not get the valuable oxygen they need to function properly.
10– You Take Years Off of Your Life– Regular exercise has been linked to an increase in longevity. The opposite is also true. A sedentary life, free of regular physical activity, is directly related to a shorter lifespan.Continue reading

Are Your Goals Actually Your Goals Or Have You Signed Up To Someone Else’s Agenda.?
In this article I’m looking at a massive mistake that people make when they try to set goals, and it’s a mistake which sets them up to fail …
I took this picture on a trip to visit Ailsa Craig, off the West Coast of Scotland, which is where the world’s curling stones come from. Curling is a passion of mine, so it was lovely to go up there.
There are a lot of old castles up there, and it was while visiting Dunure Castle just up the road that I noticed this view – Ailsa Craig in the background, and a football goal in front, 2 sports which made me think that I had made my visit as part of my * own * plans, and of course the football goal made me think of the goal lesson.
So, what do I mean when I ask if you have signed up to someone else’s agenda.?
Well, pretty much what it says!
It’s so easy to follow the agenda set by someone else. So easy to follow the crowd. So easy to be part of the herd. Not making any unusual noise, creating no waves, not sticking your head above the parapet, or sticking your hand up to say “Er, is this the only choice?”.
Even by following the crowd, we are following someone else’s agenda, in this case – the others in the crowd! We do it because it makes us feel comfortable. We don’t have to explain ourselves to others because we are all doing the same thing.
The problem is, the crowd may well be all doing the same thing, but that same thing in all probability, will be someone else’s agenda again!
That agenda could be the government’s, the media’s, the advertisers’. If we look more personally and go back further into our pasts, we may very well be following the agenda of our schooling, our upbringing, our parents.
How many people follow the same career path as a parent? Loads! Loads of people do, and it’s a classic example of following someone else’s agenda. It could be that you are not only following the career path of a parent, but the same as a grandparent too!
I’m not saying there is anything wrong with this example per se, but if you look to the ancestors you are following, at some point you will find the one that set the precedent, and here’s the key – * that * person was not following the crowd, that person took that career because it was * their * choice, their agenda.
Can you see the difference? It’s huge.
It doesn’t have to be career choices. That’s just one example. It could be the fashion you wear, the way you do your hair or have a big fluffy beard. It could be the music you buy, or say you like. It could be the TV you watch, the car you drive, the language you use …
The list goes on, goes on way too far in my view.
I’m a big believer, if you haven’t gathered it by now, of doing your * own * thing! Treading your own path, liking what you actually like rather than what you think everyone else likes.
Set your own agenda.
If others don’t like it, that’s ok. You’re not setting your agenda for anyone else anyway, you’re setting it for * you! *.
Some people won’t like it because it’s genuinely not their preference, which is fine – others will not like it, because seeing you set your own path shines a light on the fact that they are still following the crowd.
They might try and bring you down, to bring you back into the crowd, but you mustn’t let them, and in all honesty, it won’t take long for them to realise that you’re not going back, and if it means they get left behind, well, so be it sometimes.
If you follow other people’s reasons for setting your goals, when the challenges come up, as they always do, you won’t have the genuine motivation, and ensuing energy to overcome them, and failure becomes the most likely outcome.
Even if you do grit your teeth and push through, the frustration will build up because deep down you will be questioning why you even doing it, because deep down you know it’s not your own road you are on.
It can be scary to switch from being submissive to the agenda of others, to being active about your own, but the difference in your life, oh the difference in your life is transformational!
The frustrations will change from frustration at lack of self expression, to frustrations of forward heading obstacles to overcome, but since you’ll be feeling more in touch with your real soul, your own life joys, you’ll move forwards with energy and motivation.
It’s a marvellous thing. Try it. Have a good, long hard think about whether the agendas you follow are actually yours or not, and if not, buckle up and get ready to change to your own!Continue reading
Here’s another personal development article in the series digging deeper into the ideas raised in my quote images, and for this one we’re looking forwards …
I took this photo on a balmy September evening 2015, at a place called Reculver on the Kent coast in the South East of Britain. The contrast between the older towers and the * even older * towers was stark, and the lesson leaped out at me.
So, let’s take that look forward I mentioned at the beginning, because it’s something that we all do, and it’s easy to think how lovely everything will be when the ‘new you’ is here.
The new you that is happy, the new you that has what you want, no money worries, no career worries, no relationship worries, basically no worries at all. Ok, come on, let’s be honest, the new you where * everything * is pretty much perfect! Much better than the old you, eh?
Sounds great doesn’t it! It would be great too, if it weren’t such a fantasy, and that’s the key point I want to make.
We think of it as a fantasy future, so much so that when we get those thoughts of this utopian new you, it seems such a fantasy to us that we smile at the ridiculousness of it, as we almost grudgingly accept that the real world is where the real, old you, lives. The old you that does have the worries about finance, health, career, relationships, and so on.
Does that ring a bell? If it does, you’re not alone, not by a long shot!
It’s what the majority of people do, and because the majority of people do it, we take it for granted – to the extent that we fail to see how ludicrous we’re actually being to ourselves, and we fail to even consider the most basic of questions, which is this …
Why is it such a fantasy? Why is it so hard to believe that we can be free of these worries, that we push the idea of that person ever further into the future?
The answer to the question is fairly simple – because it’s easier to push the fantasy into the future than try and create it now.
If we have this ideal version of you, (or more often than not even just a * better * version of you, so far into the future), we can then put all sorts of conditions in our own paths.
‘Oh yes, but this needs to happen first, oh yes, it’ll be ok when so and so does this …’.
There are 2 massive problems with this common mechanism -.
1. We think it makes life easier, but it’s a false economy, because although it lets us avoid the effort doing what it might take to become the new you, by not doing it we are sentencing ourselves to remain exactly where we are, with all the worries of the old you!
How is that easier?
It’s not, that’s how. It’s not easier – in fact it makes life harder, unnecessarily so too.
2. The second problem with this mechanism, is that it’s simply not true that the new you will only appear at some point in the distant future when all the conditions have been met. Most of the conditions are ones we have set ourselves!
That means we can do something about these self set conditions, and get rid of them. If we do the work on our self esteem, on our belief and attitude systems, it can be a revelation to find that the new you can be surprisingly close at hand …
Simple concepts about acceptance, appreciation, allowing happiness, etc are all things we can start working on at any time.
We can get rid of a lot of worries about relationships, career, money, health, etc, by putting in place a new set of action and thought habits. If we practice these new habits consistently until they become, well, habits, then instead of fantasising about the new you, you’ll begin to notice that you * are * the new you!
Is this easy? Well let’s be honest, it can be hard to overcome thought processes which may have been ingrained for years, yes, but once you accept the logic of the idea, and decide to do something about it, that automatically takes you leaps forwards from the old you, which by definition means you have lessened what you thought was a massive gap between that old you, and the new you. Exciting, eh!Continue reading
The acts of self-consciousness and self-control go hand in hand. The fact is that when we are self-conscious we are better able to exhibit self-control. There are many persons out there that are not self aware or conscious of themselves and they are not in control of their emotions and actions. Being self-aware is important as it can affect or self-development and progression through life. It is crucial that we are able to be aware of all that we do and say and know that these things will affect circumstances as well. Being self-conscious is not always a bad thing as we like to think but if we relate it to being self-aware, we see the benefits.
If we are self-aware, it is less likely that we will act on impulse. It is more likely the case that we will be ready and able to assess a situation properly and show self-control in deciding how to approach the situation. The self-awareness that we possess will therefore directly affect our self-control. It is crucial that we are able to become self-aware persons in order to grab control of our emotions and actions. This can be done in many ways but these depend on the will power of the individual involved and the desire to take control of their lives.
Some of the ways to move the process to self-awareness and self-control along include the need for professional assistance. There are many programmes that offer techniques to assist in this process. These are offered by many self-development persons and are a good start if we do not have the time or will power to devote to the process on our own. We may not make the time unless we are enrolled in a class or unless we are motivated externally to do so. In these cases, the programmes can be a great starting point.
If we do have some self-control then it is good to try the other option of working on self-awareness and control on our own. There are many persons that have highlighted the great benefits of the use of meditation. This can assist the individual greatly as it leads the exploration into self and opens the awareness that is needed for better self-control. Meditation has numerous benefits to its users aside from these. It has been reputed to be of assistance in stress relief and the prevention of more serious illnesses such as heart disease and many more. The relaxing effect of meditation and the exploration into self-are able to translate to a better awareness overall and better self control.
The downside of meditation is that it can take a while to reap benefits and there are often persons that will become bored with the process and not give the method the required time to assist them. Meditation is not an overnight fix by any means and can take months and years of dedication for you to achieve all the results. The meditation process requires quiet and peace, which can often be hard for many of us to source. Not all these challenges however stop the fact that it is one of the best ways to grasp control of self and become more self-aware.
There are other factors that can assist and that can lead you down the road to better self-awareness and self-control. There is a lot of information available in self-development sites that show you the importance of self-awareness and self-control to your life. These are things that can greatly affect the quality of your life and should not be disregarded.Continue reading
Self- confidence is something that people find difficult to have. There are people who find low self-confidence influences the way they see themselves and their performance. Contrary to what most people think, self confidence is not something that only the gifted and blessed could have. With the help of personal mastery, individuals could now start building on their self-confidence.
Personal mastery is about self-development and self-improvement. It is about loving yourself and accepting yourself as you are. You need to acknowledge your weaknesses and at the same time strengthen them. Personal mastery is about loving yourself.
To attain personal mastery and confidence, it is important to believe in yourself. It is also important to be content with yourself. To develop self- confidence, self-acceptance should occur. Self- acceptance is about accepting not only the good things in life, but also the failures in life.
Aside from self-acceptance what else can you do to achieve self-confidence through personal mastery.
• Understanding thoughts and emotions– forgetting about a bad habit or behavior would make us more aware about thoughts and emotions. By becoming aware of our emotions and behavior, then we will be able to overcome and correct our behavior. But once you have decided to change habits and behavior, there are different strategies and methods that you can do gain mastery over them.
• Self discipline. Changing attitude and behavior, or even perspective might take a while. Change does not happen overnight. You need to gather enough knowledge and start learning and practicing the skills that you would like to improve and develop.
• Have a clear vision on what you want to happen in your life. To be able to move forward in your life, then it is important to have clarity. Seeing what you want to have in a clearer image would encourage you to work for it.
• The choice is yours. You can choose what you want to experience. Doing something important for you and something you love, would give you enough confidence to continue with what you have started.
• Commitment and trusting. To be able to attain personal mastery for development and growth, you need to trust yourself that you can undergo the process and commit yourself on the process.
When developing self-confidence through personal mastery, we would have to develop some characteristics. We would develop self awareness, which is about our readiness to look at our past, accept it and the same goes for the present. Aside from this, we also develop self-knowledge which is about understanding our past and our attitude. Not only should we understand them but also be able to comprehend the basis for such attitude or experience. Last, we develop self discipline. Self-discipline is about how we make sure that our goals and vision are translated in action and achieved. We need self discipline to make sure that we do not back-out just because of simple and little disappointments and setbacks.
Building self-confidence can’t be done on just a snap. Self- improvement can be a never-ending process. There are people who even acknowledge that self-improvement can last even for a life-time. Sometimes, we can only say that we are fully masterful of our life if we have reached our dreams and goals. Personal mastery can help use with growth and eventually with success. We just need to continue with our dreams and be patient.Continue reading
